About Us

Peterborough Art Society was founded in 1929. Our founding member was W V Garrard, previously an Art Master at the Kings School, Peterborough. Mr Garrard and his associates decided to bring together local artists and art enthusiasts, interested in meeting regularly, exchanging ideas and exhibiting their work.

We meet every first Monday in the month (2nd Monday if the 1st is a bank holiday). Some months we have a demonstration by a professional. Mostly these are artists. In other months we have members painting/drawing still life or portraiture together. We also occasionally organise workshop weekends including taster sessions for members to try a new medium.

During the warmer months we also meet on the 3rd Monday of the month, either painting/drawing together or meeting in small groups to critique our work, to follow up on a previous demonstration evening, or to work on a themed picture together.

For the more adventurous, we occasionally paint en plein air together.

For the December meeting we hold a popular Christmas evening where we enjoy a few games and art related short quizzes. There are always many prizes to be won. Members each bring along nibbles for everyone to enjoy and a good time is had by all. January is the month for our AGM.

Our Society enjoys at least two formal exhibitions each year. Our Annual Exhibition is in June each year, plus our autumn one is held around October.. There are always other smaller informal exhibitions we hold when opportunities arise. Keep looking at our events schedule to find out more.
